I have decided to dedicate my birthday blog posts to perfect dresses (remember this one?). Now, please take a moment to consider this burgundy lace number by Self-Portrait. PSA: you can get a selection of Self-Portrait dresses 25% off at Shopbop’s Friends and Family sale going on now (my favorites are this, this and this)!! I fell in love with this dress over the summer when I saw it hanging in a store in SoHo. It was in periwinkle and I decided I had no where to wear it so I didn’t end up buying it. But it was one of those missed opportunity non-purchases that stuck with me. I kept thinking about it and thinking of places I could have worn it. And then a few weeks ago I was walking down Bleecker Street and BAM! I saw this baby hanging inside a store window (it really was a visual merchandising win – cue heart eyed smiley emoji). It is dress *perfection*. And although I love/loved the periwinkle version, I think the burgundy better suits my skin tone. So, it was fate.
I wore the dress for the first time this past weekend celebrating my birthday and I felt exactly the way one should feel when wearing a party dress: unstoppable (that could have also been due to the sugar high I was almost definitely experiencing from Momofoku birthday cake or from the several fireball shots that were consumed – but we’ll leave it at the dress, shall we?).
Spoiler alert: I also plan to wear this dress to several engagement parties, possibly a wedding and at least one holiday party over the next year. BUT for the fear of totally repeating the same outfit, I’m going to switch, spice and jazz things up with accessories. To the least formal occasion: I plan to pair it with sneakers, a structured blazer and a bold berry lip. To the holiday party: a velvet jacket, tights and sling-backs with a messy low bun (think J. Crew model messy hair). To the engagement party: a strappy heel, one bold gold cuff on each wrist and just one statement earring (because I love throwing people off with asymmetrical accessorizing). You get the idea, go big or go home.
Happy October 13th people!
