Happy Monday! I hope that everyone is feeling refreshed after a nice weekend. I know that I am. Because this weekend, I was lucky enough to attend the HRC Greater New York Gala. And it was truly a night to remember. The black tie event was held in the iconic Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan which is about to close its doors for major renovations. While dining in the Grand Ballroom, we heard honorees Meryl Streep, Seth Meyers and the visionary team behind the film Moonlight speak.
In Meryl’s acceptance speech receiving the HRC’s National Ally For Equality Award, she put into words the gratitude that I feel towards such an incredible organization when she said: “you have made the lives of people that I love better, stronger, and safer.” She artfully chose such simple words and filled them with so much meaning. The fact that Meryl Streep is not only a critically acclaimed icon but is also empowering activist is something that I understood prior to this weekend. And still the power, grace and delivery of her words blew me away. It is safe to say that she exceeded my wildest expectations.
Someone at my table at the event asked me what brought me there that night. And the reason is simple. Because after the election this year, I promised myself that I would do more to get involved and give to causes that are meaningful to me. The Human Rights Campaign is one of those causes — and attending Saturday night’s gala was just one way for me to get involved and show thanks for all that the HRC does and all that they will continue to do. I am looking forward to doing more to get involved in important causes that need our support!
Here’s to a motivating and empowering week ahead. And with Valentine’s Day tomorrow, I’m choosing to celebrate that love wins. Because love is love is love is love – it’s as simple as that.
