Summer 2014 is well underway and it has been pretty fantastic if you ask me. Writing this on the airplane back to Manhattan from Nantucket… I wish that I could freeze time and make the season last longer. There is something about summer on the East Coast – if you have experienced it, you understand the intangible almost euphoric and incomparable feeling these summers (or more accurately summer weekends – unless you live for over-air-conditioned offices) create. The knowledge that you have exactly 14 weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day is bliss. I hold these summer weekends sacred and wait for them the other nine months of the year.
I find the mass exodus from the city on these weekends not only a rarity but a gift. If you are lucky enough to get away then you have a rockin’ beach weekend ahead of you and hey, if you stick around the city – it is truly your playground – no lines, no crowds – nothing better.
This particular summer Friday (I know, I know, those two words combined are pretty ahhhmazing) I was lucky enough to explore the city with friends before heading to the beach. I should take this opportunity to acknowledge that as soon as mid June hits, the colors red, white and blue become the main ingredients of my summer wardrobe. I love this time of year and that it allows you to wear red, white and blue without looking like you are headed to a collegiate sporting event (although, let’s be honest, that’s not the worst either). This Zoe Karssen sweater immediately became a favorite – it has been a constant companion of mine on summer weekend travel – overtly flirty message and all. The airy white top has proven to be one of the best purchases. I have worn it countless times to a variety of occasions… out to dinner with skinny jeans and pumps, to the beach over a bikini with cut offs – you get the idea. Cut off shorts are a summer staple that I will never stop adoring. Finished with my printed bucket feet sneaks I’m ready for the 4th of July. Who’s with me!?
I hope that everyone has an amazing time celebrating America this week! xx
