What better time to talk about the rules of fashion than during NYFW. Here’s the thing though, what I love most about fashion is that there are no rules. That is what keeps me coming back for more and is what continually draws me in. Fashion is a forum that begs for rules to be broken – it even encourages it. These are some of my personal favorite fashion misconceptions to debunk:

When someone tells me not to wear white after Labor Day, guess what I’m going to be wearing the week of September 8th: a whole lotta white (as seen above). I will put away my linen, perhaps. But white denim and cozy ivory sweaters are a part of the 365 club.

When someone tells me that you can’t possibly wear crop tops to work, I say bring on the high waisted culottes. And bam just like that crop tops aren’t only appropriate they are positively PG – in an uber cool way that only crop tops and culottes can be.

Don’t mix prints you say? HAH! I’m gonna wear plaid, paisley, horizontal stripes AND an oversized floral (and look totally rad doing it). If you like street style photos as much as I do, you’ll know I’m right about this one.

Your bag should match your shoes.. I’m not even going to get into this one. Just no.

Don’t wear navy and black together, it doesn’t match. So, SO wrong. Navy and black is one of the most glorious combinations. I say, if you want to look chic and sophisticated wear navy and black, preferably together.

When it comes to accessorizing, less is more. MORE IS MORE, PEOPLE. MORE IS MORE. Instead of less I say: mix your gold with your silver and add texture interest, prints and interesting materials (lucite, pyrite and beading are some of my faves to mix in). I think it’s probably pretty clear from the way that I accessorize that I have a personal vendetta against that one.

Happy NYFW, you beautiful rule breakers! xx
