With today officially marking nine – single digit – days until Christmas, holiday party season is in full swing. We are in the trenches of work parties, ugly sweater parties, white elephant parties – you name it. So what to wear to said events: I say go big and go for the *BLING*. And by bling, I mean, sequins, embellishments, and metallics of course. Really if the end result looks like you were dunked in a bucket of Elmer’s glue and then rolled around in an enormous pile of tinsel, you have succeeded.
Although, it is the holiday season and sequins are pretty much expected, do not, I repeat, do not use that as an excuse to shy away from them. If for no better reason than this: why pass up an excuse to look like a walking Christmas ornament or better yet, something come to life from Barney’s holiday window display.
Now that you are all fully on board, where to start. I say your closet – I’m sure that most of you have some type of sequin thing in your closet. Take it out and make it new again, cut off the sleeves, throw a turtleneck underneath it, wear it with pants – make it feel fresh. The dress I’m wearing is something that I dug out from deep in the depths of my closet and I originally bought it to be worn over a bathing suit with bare legs and sandals. It is one of those items that I was thirty seconds away from getting rid of the last time I did a major closet clean out. But (because I am nostalgic and have a thing for roaming the streets looking like a disco ball) I tried it on and BAM: I can’t live without it (and neither can my holiday party scene). The best part about this dress is that when you look at it quickly it isn’t quite clear if the wearer is sporting a sequin bib or has sprouted sequin chest hair. WIN WIN!
Happy holidays, party goers. Shine on!
